Divided

By Ella Dorman-Gajic

Currently in development.

Divided charts the parallel lives of two women, seven decades apart, both trapped in a world that threatens their survival.

1946. South London. Imagine a life without a single young man in sight. Then suddenly: a devestatingly handsome war veteran shows up on your doorstep. But what do you do when married life is the opposite of what you thought it would be? As SALLY's husband's unravelling condition threatens their livelihood, she must take more shifts at an underground variety club, and soon descends a slippery path to a life behind the curtains.

2023. Milton Keynes Superdrug counter. Ever been stuck in a dead-end job? BETH dreams of a life in the spotlight, so when she meets budding photographer ADAM, she believes this could be her first step on the ladder. But is it just her image she will be handing over, to get ahead? Thrust into a precarious industry, when a man offers her the job she’s always dreamed of, she is torn between her ambitions and her safety.

This witty, heartfelt yet disquieting play powerfully calls into how much has changed for women over the last 75 years.
